Find Out Exactly Where Your Body Stands - Before It Lets You Down

Whether you’re a rugby club heading into pre-season, a runner building back up after injury, or someone who just wants to understand why the same problem keeps coming back — this assessment gives you answers that training feel and gut instinct simply can’t.

At Peacock Pain & Injury Clinic in Mold, we use specialist strength testing equipment and functional movement screening to give you a clear, objective picture of how your body is actually performing – not just how it feels. For individual athletes and gym-goers, that means knowing what’s holding you back. For sports clubs, it means going into the season with your team’s vulnerabilities identified before they become injuries.

We provide pre-season screening and strength and movement testing for athletes, active individuals, and sports clubs across Mold, Flintshire, and North Wales.

What Does Strength and Movement Testing Actually Involve?

It’s not a standard sports therapy appointment and it’s not a gym fitness test. It sits somewhere between the two, combining clinical assessment with objective performance data to give you a complete picture of how your muscles and joints are functioning under load.

Using VALD performance testing technology – the same systems used in professional sport – alongside functional movement screens, our lead sports therapist Matt will assess:

The aim isn’t to predict injuries. It’s to give you – or your team — the clearest possible picture of where things stand right now, so you can do something about it before a problem develops.

Each session ends with a report of your results via the VALD app, practical recommendations for what to work on, and a clear explanation from Matt of what the data means for you specifically.

Who Is Strength & Movement Testing For?

Strength and movement testing isn’t just for elite athletes or injury rehab. It’s useful at any point – whether you’re preparing for something, recovering from something, or just trying to train smarter.

Individual Athletes and Active People

A lot of the people we test have been dealing with a niggling problem for months – something that doesn’t quite go away, or keeps coming back at the worst moment. Often there’s a reason for that rooted in how the body is moving and loading, not just where it hurts.

If you’re a runner, cyclist, gym-goer, or play sport recreationally and you want a proper baseline – or just want to know what’s actually going on – this is the assessment that gives you that. You don’t need to be injured to book in, and you don’t need to be a serious athlete. You just need to want clarity over guesswork.

We also carry out ACL return to play testing for people working their way back from reconstruction or serious lower limb injury – giving you objective data on limb symmetry and neuromuscular readiness rather than a subjective “you seem fine to me.”

Sports Clubs: Pre-Season Screening Across North Wales

We offer pre-season screening packages for sports clubs across Mold, Flintshire, and North Wales. Each player receives an individual assessment covering strength, movement quality, and injury risk factors. Coaches and medical staff receive a squad-level overview to inform training decisions and workload management from day one.

We work with rugby clubs, cricket clubs, football teams, running clubs, and academy programmes. Sessions are structured around your squad size and schedule – get in touch and we’ll put a package together that works for you.

A pre-season screening session typically covers:

Sport-Specific Screening

Different sports place very different demands on the body, and the screening we carry out reflects that.

Rugby places significant demands on strength, power, and resilience under contact. We focus on identifying asymmetries and movement restrictions that could increase risk during collisions, scrummaging, and high-intensity running.

Cricket is often overlooked when it comes to pre-season preparation, but shoulder function, rotational strength, and lower body power all contribute significantly to both performance and injury resilience over a long season.

Football players commonly present with hamstring issues, groin problems, knee injuries, and ankle instability — many of which have identifiable underlying causes that a pre-season screen can flag before they become a fixture absence.

For runners and endurance athletes, we focus on load tolerance, hip and ankle strength, and movement efficiency the factors that most commonly drive overuse injuries when training volume increases.

What You’ll Get Out of Strength Testing

Most people leave with three things they didn’t have when they walked in.

Clarity. Not a best guess or a vague “it could be this” – actual numbers that show you where your body is strong, where it isn’t, and where the gaps are widest. For a lot of people, that alone is worth the session.

A plan. Specific recommendations for what to work on, based on your results – not a generic programme, but targeted guidance relevant to your body, your sport, and your goals. If you need to be referred on to another specialist, Matt will tell you that too.

Confidence. Whether that’s the confidence to return to sport after injury, to push into a new training block, or simply to stop second-guessing every twinge. That shift matters – and it’s harder to get without data.

For clubs, you also receive a squad-level overview – a summary of trends across the group that helps coaches and support staff make informed decisions about training load, player management, and who might benefit from early intervention.

Why Peacock Pain & Injury Clinic?

Matt Scott is our lead sports therapist and the person who runs every strength and movement testing session. He brings both clinical experience and a genuine background in sport, which means he understands what the data looks like in practice – not just what it says on a report.

Matt – BSc Hons Sports Therapy, Federation of Holistic Therapists, 2 years qualified and great experience working with sports clubs, athletes, and musculoskeletal conditions within private practice (please make more patient friendly)

We use VALD performance testing technology in clinic – the same systems found in professional sport environments. We’ve invested in it because we think every patient deserves more than observation and opinion. You deserve numbers.

We’re based in Mold, Flintshire, and see patients from across North Wales – from Wrexham and Denbigh to Rhyl and across the border into Chester. If you’ve spent too long training around a problem rather than solving it, we’d like to change that.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Many of the people we test are completely injury-free but want a clear picture of where their body is before ramping up training, starting a new season, or returning to a sport after time away. Testing is just as useful as a proactive tool as it is for rehab.
A standard physiotherapy appointment focuses on assessing and treating a specific problem. Strength and movement testing is different — it’s a structured performance assessment that gives you objective data across the whole body, not just the area that’s bothering you. It’s more systematic, more data-driven, and the output is a written report rather than a treatment session.
Yes, and it’s one of the most common requests we get. Using objective strength and hop testing, we measure limb symmetry indices and neuromuscular readiness — key markers used to inform return to sport decisions after ACL reconstruction. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of where you stand against clinical benchmarks, and what (if anything) still needs work.
We arrange club screenings directly, working around your pre-season schedule. Each player is assessed individually and receives their own written report. Coaches receive a squad-level summary. Timing, format, and content are agreed in advance based on what’s most useful for your sport and squad size.
Individual sessions run between 60 and 90 minutes depending on the scope of testing. Club sessions are planned based on squad size – contact us for details.
No special preparation needed. Wear comfortable clothing and trainers you can move freely in. If you have any recent scans, surgical letters, or rehab notes it’s worth bringing those along, but they’re not essential.
We’re based in Mold, Flintshire. We see patients from across North Wales — including Wrexham, Rhyl, Colwyn Bay, and Denbigh — as well as from Chester and the surrounding areas.

Payment is taken after each session — we prefer card, but cash is also accepted. Want a receipt for your records? Just ask and we’ll send one straight to your inbox.

A quick note on insurance: we don’t invoice insurers directly, but your receipt will include your therapist’s registration details (HCPC, BASRaT, FHT, or equivalent) should you wish to claim through your own provider. Since every policy is different, it’s worth checking your cover with your insurer before you book.

Yes — many patients claim back physiotherapy, sports therapy, and sports massage through their health insurance. Policies vary from patient to patient, so please check with your insurer before booking that your policy covers your chosen therapist — it’s your responsibility to confirm this cover in advance.

Appointments are paid upfront on the day. We’ll give you a receipt showing your therapist’s registration number (HCPC, BASRaT, FHT, or other), which you submit to your insurer to claim back what your policy allows. As cover varies, we can’t guarantee reclaim amounts — any shortfall is your responsibility.

We know life doesn’t always stick to plan, and we’re happy to help you rearrange your appointment whenever you need to. The more notice you can give us, the better — with a minimum of 24 hours needed to avoid a charge.

We’ll send text and email reminders ahead of time to help you keep on track. To make a change, simply call or email us.
